Divorce settlements involving children occur frequently across the country, including in New Jersey. Determining child custody in divorce proceedings is completely normal, even for celebrities.
An announcement has been officially made about the divorce of Heidi Klum and Seal. The couple, following rumors of their divorce during a recent weekend, made a statement on the night of Jan. 22. In the joint statement, the couple revealed that they decided to separate and do some soul searching. They further revealed that despite loving and respecting each other, they've grown apart after seven years of marriage. As far as determining custody, the couple is putting their children at the top of their priority list.
The couple has four children together, Klum bringing one child into the relationship from a previous relationship. Klum and Seal married in 2005, and they renewed their vows annually on their anniversary. They were one of Hollywood's highest-profile couples. The couple frequently displayed public affection for one another in front of cameras. Seal referred to Klum as his best friend.
In Seal's statement, he talked about how important is it for people to understand that he and Klum have a mutual understanding between each other, and it's a healthy one. He continued by adding his thoughts regarding people's discussions surrounding what is most important in a relationship. He believes it's true that a couple should have love for each other. In addition to these beliefs, he added that he thinks the most important thing, or at least high on the list of priorities, should also be respect. He believes respecting your spouse is just as important as loving him or her.
TMZ was the first to leak the couple's plan for divorce on Jan. 21, and stated the announcement was planned for this week.
